REHANA JABEEN'S JOURNEY
Born in Amritsar, Rehana Jabeen was the daughter of a first class test cricketer from Southern Punjab. The family moved from Amritsar to Lahore post partition, but when her father died suddenly in 1957, she moved to England with her mother and younger sibling in search of a better life.
Rehana married a young Pakistani and the couple began working in a handbag factory in the East End of London, eventually going on to open their very own handbag factory in 1967,eponymously named Jabeens. Although she cared deeply about the industry in which she was making a living, Rehana always dreamed of owning her own eatery where she could serve home cooked traditional Kashmiri food. Her generosity and love came through in her cooking for friends and loved ones and ultimately was where her passion lay.
Sadly Rehana’s deteriorating health meant she could no longer partake in the cooking she loved so much and subsequent bouts of ill health led to her untimely death in 2010 at the age of 62.
Rehana’s passion and love for food lives on in her recipes and these unique flavours are captured perfectly in Jabeens chutneys.
